Avery Island's Jungle Gardens - pam-and-edmund-mcilhenny

Cassie McIlhenny spotted this newborn fawn on Avery Island in late April. It appeared abandoned, but wildlife experts advise that the does often leave their newborn offspring while they feed. Fawns are born without scent, hence they are safer from prdators, and their white spots also serve as camouflage. They also know to stay perfectly still--another protection. While it is tempting to rescue the adorable babies, the kindest thing to do is leave them alone so their mother can retrieve them.
