    Broad-winged Hawks typically swoop down from their perches once they have spotted potential prey.  More often, we see them perched higher up in the trees, but this one landed on a fence post at the back of the pepper fields.
    The American Kestrel, also called the Sparrow Hawk, is the smallest falcon in North America, and one of the most colorful.  They mostly eat insects, other invertebrates, small rodents and birds.
